Anime Question

Why One Piece?

So many people LOVE One Piece. So I watched about thirty episodes in hopes that it would get better. It's pretty cheesy, the art is iffy, and they're all overly hyper.
Does the show get better? Like on with the plot. Do the fighting scenes improve? Does Luffy EVER mature????

Thanks for replying! I continued watching a little more, and I'm finding that I am (slowly) starting to enjoy it little by little. Of course, it'll probably never be my favorite, but I can now see the appeal. Thanks!:D
