Anime Question

To all the dub haters out there!

I am sick to death of all the sub/dub wars that go on all the time. Just because you like one, does not mean you have to trash the other to no end.

Watch this video, this really should open up your eyes, and stop being so narrow minded. And just to clear things up, I love both dub and sub! Everyone's personal preference is fine,if you say you like one, just don't rubbish the other. It's pathetic honestly.

Well anyway, watch the vid! It's really good. Feel free to comment about it :)

oh, P.S. if that batcountry fellow (I think that's the name) is still around, I'm sure they'll like this vid :P

Listen, I know what you said is completely reasonable and you have a lot of good factors as to how people should not fight over which is better, but the thing is, sometimes English Dubbers don't do the job seriously enough because they tend to look down on stuff from Asia. I'm an Asian so I've had personal experiences in this kind of thing. Many of the people I've met that aren't Asians act like they're at the top of the world. I don't hate English dubs since some are good, but there are a lot of English dubbers out there who insult anime by not taking the job seriously. Compare the quality of the dubs, English and Japanese. There is a clear difference in expression and voice adjustment. Some anime like Naruto, the Animax dub of Inuyasha, and the voice of Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist, those are the good ones who take things seriously. if you watch plenty of anime, you would surely hear the difference. I cannot take anime seriously if the voices do not match the scenes and stuff just right. I really don't hate different language dubbing, I mean, occasionally even the Japanese original may sound weird, but I do hate how many English dubbers do not make things seem realistic in the show. The good feel of it all is just taken away. Don't you think I have a point?

I forgot to add this: personally I think subs give a better feel to everything since that was the original anyway. I like to stick to originals in stuff because the originals always have more work put into in and people should respect that. Other than all this, I quite agree that no one should really be fighting over which is better.

Me too. Reading and Television should NEVER go together (unless we're talking about the giant text scrolls from Star Wars).

'Reading and Television should NEVER go together' what if someone has hearing problems, subtitles will be needed to understand whats going on.

ik that its hard to read and watch at the same time, but i really like the feeling of hearing the show in original japanese and often the translation is always off like in fruits basket "Honda-san" is Miss. Honda! also, sometimes the acting is very stupid and cheesey and i cant bear to watch it. i like the video from above but still i hate dub, and wish there was some bettter ones out there :)

I disliked batcountry because he was too much of a jerk for me to take him seriously. He insulted too much instead of being reasonable and explaining in a mature manner of why he disliked subs and Hetalia fans. Some of his points were good but he always used vulgar words against other fans. I only use my vulgar words against anime characters =P. I try not to though. He also wouldn't get the fact that no matter what you do or say those people are never going to go away. The Hetalia fans, the sub-lovers, and the Yaoi fans will ALWAYS be there no matter what you do. I understand every once in a while you need a good rant but his extreme was just unnecessary.

Anyways, either one is fine for me as long as the voices are good. I've already said enough of this point in other similar questions so. =]

really the only thing i have a problem with in anime (besides annoying characters) is what i think of as bad animation, i like subs, dubs, yaoi, yuri, straight, violence, no violence, pretty much anything, and i agree people should stop with the whole subs vs dubs thing but i still believe you and the guy in the vid could have said this a bit better, just my opinion

You say the guy and I could voice this better? Care to explain as my opinions aren't the same as the guy in the video, I'm just posting this video to show how he raises some good points about the silly arguments of dub vs sub. I'm in no way saying one is better, I respect each and I like the differences. So how can I reword that to your liking?

that's not what i'm saying, i'm talking about what you said, and really it's only my opinion, and what i think you shouldn't have done is said stuff about people being narrow minded, you should have left it out, but if you don't want to then don't listen to me

I miss bat country! Such a smart fan-popper. :( Anyway, this video is awesome! I have to say that it depends on the show and the voices for me. Sometimes it's easier to find subbed anime rather than complete dubbed anime and vise versa. I have no solid preference between dubs or subs because sometimes the english voices sound better than the Japanese or vise versa. I just love anime period. Dubbed or subbed. :D

I agree with everything that that guy says in the video... except for the whole "anime dubs in the 80's-90's sucked" thing. I've seen some dubs from the 80's and 90's that were pretty damn good (hell, one of my favorite anime shows of all time was dubbed in the 90's).

Also, I'm getting sick and tired of people giving 4Kids shit for doing their job. Sure, they do edit the hell out of anime when they dub it, even when it's unnecessary.

However, I think of 4Kids as more an "american TV show" company than an "anime dubbing" company. Besides, they're called "4Kids" for a reason. Did you really think that they're aiming their shit towards teenagers and adults?

Warning: I write a ton in this next part.

I haven't seen Mew Mew Power yet (mostly because I'm currently caught up with Ranma 1/2 and Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers), but I imagine that an "americanized" version of that anime wouldn't be too different from an american show such as Pryde of the X-Men (I'll leave a video of it. By the way, before anyone says "Pryde of the X-Men sucks! Why'd you mention it?!", you have to consider the fact that not all TV shows (or in this case, TV pilots) (this goes for anime adaptations of manga) can be 100% percent accurate to the source material. Besides, Pryde of the X-Men was made in the 80's, not the 90's).

Mmhm I agree with that 4kids thing. I used to be a bit harsh on them because let's admit it, they do make some strange adjustments a series. But at the end of the day, like you said, they're just doing their job and are obviously directing it at the target audience: kids. As for that Mew Mew thing, the dub almost makes it feel like you're watching a different anime. A lot of scenes are cut out or edited, and translations are a bit strange. It's definitely 'Americanised'.

i don't like watching dubs but that's not to say i hate dubs, the voices just never sound right to me, but i don't go hating on people who like dubs, everyone has there own taste and they're entitled to like whatever they want. i don't think this was a particularly good question to start especially with the title "To all the dub haters out there!" it sounds like you're trying to incite something, now i'm sure that isn't the case but surely this particular subject of choice will only add more fuel to the argument for both sub haters and dub haters, i've read mostly arguments throughout the comments and answers, i haven't seen anything of the sort on any other question. this one gives a bad vibe in my opinion

At first I thought your answer was reasonable and understandable, but then...Sweet Jesus... I'm not trying to incite anything mate so don't go accusing me of that. Why I titled my question like that? It was to get my point across to those who those who are so negative towards dubs for in most cases, no good reason. This video I found was directed at them to try and let them see that many dubs aren't that terrible, so instead of just hating on it, I'm simply asking them to leave it alone because I'm really tired of all the sub/dub wars that go on in this spot. In no way is it my intention to start arguments, for goodness sake I'm just sharing a video to the anime fans and I have a right to do so. I might add, that most of the arguments you see are about a previous fanpop user who gained a bad rep when it came to this subject, so it's not my fault that people started arguing about that user again. You should have seen that particular users questions, A LOT more arguments went down on those. You say you've never seen arguments like this on any other question? Oh boy, you must be new here. Either that or you have never looked through the questions section on this spot before. Haha bad vibes you say? Looks like someone is just afraid of discussion. Would you rather me create a question with 'happy' vibes about posting a picture of your favourite character etc etc those questions plague this spot. I am a reasonable user on this site, but don't go accusing me of starting arguments, I just shared a video. The arguments started by other users, and I'd call them 'opinions' rather than arguments anyway. And don't go saying "I haven't seen anything of the sort on any other question" because that statement is one that would start arguments. So please, don't be directing such comments at me, when I'm not the one who goes on hating on either dubs/subs unreasonably. You're entitled to your opinion, but I must say you've taken this whole question in the wrong way.

i am indeed new here, so no i don't know about all this other stuff and reading over what i said, well i couldn't find the right wording to be honest, i apologise if what i said annoyed you, believe me that was not my intent when writing the comment, although once again reading it, it does look like that was the intent. i'm not afraid of discussion it's just that to me this doesn't really seem like much of a discussion

The idea and opinion of 'discussion' differs from person to person, so I don't mind what you say about that. I think that the both of us weren't intending to offend the other, stuff is just a bit harder to communicate through text rather than verbally saying it. I really don't like being mean, honestly, so sorry if my response was a bit blunt. How about we start over, because I hate arguments >.< Truce? I'll add you, hope you add me back :) Oh, and welcome to fanpop btw since you're new xD
