Anime Question

Why do people hate dubs?

People often say that anime dubs often suck, and to be honest, I have to disagree. I've watched many dubs, and they can be good.

With dubs, I can... oh, I don't know, UNDERSTAND what they're actually saying. But with subtitles, I have to read.

...yeah, if I want to read, I'd just grab Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park off of my book shelf, flip to the scene where the Tyrannosaurus escapes, and start reading.

Most of the best dubs I've watched are by Funimation. If you really want good anime dubs, you can find some of their work on Netflix (I'm currently watching their dub of El Cazador de la Bruja).

The only bad dubs I've watched were the 4Kids dubs of One Piece and Dragon Ball Z Kai, and even then, that doesn't make 4Kids a bad dubbing company (just watch their dub of Dinosaur King. They can make some damn good stuff when they actually use their brains).

Give me a few GOOD reasons (and I DO mean good) why I should even consider watching subtitled anime over dubs.

I can understand that, but I've seen people express SO much hate for dubs, it isn't even funny.

We just get annoyed when Americans butcher the names cuz of the dubs that's all

Butcher the names? You mean when they sometimes change the original japanese names? So far, the only anime I've see that's done that is Sailor Moon (and that show was awesome).

Ya might not be a fan of Powerpuff Girls Z but that show is a huge example of this. The original Japanese version had them defending Tokyo, while the English version placed them in a city called New Townsville.

From what I've heard, that show was dubbed by Ocean. They aren't really the best when it comes to dubbing, so I expect them to change one or two things.

I much rather watch in dub. I wanna be able understand and watch what's going in stead of having to quickly read what's at the bottom and miss most of it anyway.
The voices are not even bad. But I've seen people act so over the top on how much they hate them. Hate they don't even deserve.

The japanese voices match the character personalities and have more feeling put into them. The subtitles are really worth it!! I can only watch 2 anime dubbed, Inuyasha and Chrono Crusade. I always go subbed, and at our local anime club we all vote on subs even the host does so we always watch subs they are much better!! Even my brother in college does!!

Personally I like dubs very much, but I suppose its like the difference between reading a book and then the movie based on the book. I already have an image of what that character is like, and if they butch it in the movie then you start to prefer the books. Translated metaphor: I love dubs so what they did with Hiei from YYH made me a bigger fan, but what they did with Naruto practically hurt my feelings. Naruto is one of my fav characters so I looked past his jap voice, but the english dub actually made me WANT the subs some of the times... Usually the Dub version has wonderful voice actors/actresses.........

Code Geass dubs were very impresive. Most of the time I dont like a voice but not with that. (or darker than black.) But, I have netflix so yeah.
