you could watch D.N.Angel i think they're sortta similar though i have a good manga if you'd like really similar to death note.

Pandora Hearts- Time period is 18 century, main story line follows Oz Bezarius as he was dropped into the abyss. A "fairy tale" prison for criminals that have sinned. As he fell futher into the aybss the final words he heard where "You're sin...Is your very existance." and with that there story begins. (hope this got you intrested ^^)

It depends on what you like, whether romance is your thing, or mabye you like action movies or sad ones etc.
For action I would recommend Angel Beats! (Where a young boy fights for immortality)
For a sad anime: The Grave Of The Fireflies (about the American bombings in Japan)
For comedy: Arakawa Under The Bridge (a graduate has to adjust to a new life with strange neighboughs )
For romance: Most animes!
That should get you started :)
