For 12 year olds (not only), I STRONGLY recommend watching Shugo Chara! It's packed with comedy, slight romance, magic, crumbles of drama here and there and has a deep meaning. When I was watching it, I laughed my ass off, cried waterfalls, screamed and sweared at my laptop and what not. In addition, it's long (that's what she- okay, I'll stop) and every episode is entertaining - you won't get bored.
Sometimes, it might get a little predictable, but it won't stay like that for long :)

Ouran High School Host Club, if you're looking for comedy. If you want something more mysterious and old-timey, Kuroshitsuji might do the trick. And I guess Clannad as well, because it makes you feel content and happy, all-the-while making you bawl for 30 minutes straight

I just turned 13 but I'm pretty close to 12. I loved Princess Tutu and Ouran High School Host Club. I also liked Soul Eater, Last Exile, and Xam'd Lost Memories too. They're all pretty appropriate just too be safe! Enjoy your anime! :D

well... if she likes fruits basket, witch i love, than a verry alike anime thats simular in a cute anime way ouran highschool host club is the one for her * about a poor girl aproved in to rich school brakes host clubs expensive vase and, mistaken as a boy, is forced to join the club to work off dept, then is discovered as a girl!!!* i could sugjust more , but i dont fully understand the situation of how much of an exposing anime she can watch. although rosary + vampire is also a great one for her age but it shows under wear occasionly from the short skirts, thats all tho *boy fails to pass grade, but then his parents come across a acception to a different school, so he goes descovering its a school for all mosters thinkable with a strick no human policy!*

Well, theres Soul Eater, Ouran High School Host Club, Fullmetal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop... if that's an anime... and Kakashi.

I'm 12, and most of the suggested animes are for n00bs. I suggest some good classic anime like Neon Genesis Evangelion or Galaxy Express 999.
They have fantasy, romance...and are a whole lot more interesting then the other ones suggested (excluding Sailor Moon).

When I was 12, I watched Ouran Highschool Host Club and I Loved it.

WHat about Kingdom Hearts and Digmon!

I just finished watching Seven of Seven, aka NaNa Seven of Seven, on Netflix discs, and it definitely seems aimed towards the middle school demographic. Although there is one slightly naughty bonus episode after the ending episode. Just skip that one. Anyway, the series shows how hard the life of a Japanese student is, especially when you have six clones of yourself running around.

(Be advised: Mature themes) Ghost in the Shell, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Berserk, Ninja Scroll, Elfen Lied, Now and Then Here and There.

I recommend the anime Karin a.k.a Chibi Vampire. I watched it when I was 12 and I loved it! I think your sister's friend would love it too. It has a great plot.

hi I think its nice of you to help your friend. My favorite anime when I was twelve had to be clannad. Its rated PG so it should be ok with her parents.its about a boy in high school whos kind of a delinquent but he meets a really pretty girl that wants to put on a play and he and his friends help her.its a beautiful love story while still being very clean hope you and your friend will try it :D

Yea, here is a whole bunch.

Ouran high school host club. Its TV-14 but i watched it when I was 10. If you are wondering, yea there are some bad parts but no total nudity. Like in one episode the main character was posed in her underwear but that's the worst that happened. As far as cursing I don't remember any... but that was 4 years ago so you should check for yourself :/! If she doesn't like princely characters she may think this is weird. But no princes or princesses... Just lots of rich people.

Soul Eater. Its actually really cute but kinda violent. Lots of blood. Some suggestions of nudity but you cant see it on screen. Some cursing but its mild. CRAY CRAY DOCTORS. Just check for your self if you want her watching that.

XXXHOLiC. Its short but good. Its about creepy demons and stuff. Umm only once has a character been naked but she was taking a bath. Otherwise its super amazing.

Bottle Fairy. Its a cute show about fairy's who want to be human. Its cute. A 5 year old could watch that. No cursing, no nudity, no references,except for when they put on their otherwise its in one episode but otherwise its totally safe.

I suggest Tokyo Mew Mew, Sailor Moon, Lucky star,Cardcaptor Sakura, Ojamajo Doremi (Neon Genesis Evangelion might be too inappropriate even though I'm still twelve) Pretty Cure might sound gay but is pretty good PPGZ (PowerPuff girls Z) and yeah...

It is a really cute and fun anime but still has a great story line. I enjoyed it. Teaches a good point too, that you can become anything you want; you have the power to choose your character.

Madoka Magica, kuroshitsuji, soul eater, death note, full metal alchemist, and durarara. I would put more animes but I watch mostly animes like elfen lied, higurashi, and deadman wonderland and I'm 12. So I just put a few of my favorite yet least violent animes.

Lucky Star. I watched it when I was 12.

I highly recommend Soul Eater, Shugo Chara!, OHSHC, Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica, Pandora Hearts, Daily Lives of Highschool Boys, Fairy Tail, Kamisama Hajimemashita (kamisama kiss), The Earl and the Fairy, Hatenkou Yuugi, and One piece. She will love whichever anime you choose from this list and the manga of it will be on that you NEED to read. All of these will make you laugh your head off(except Madoka Magica). Hope you enjoy!

Pretty Cure is my top fav anime! My opinion it's fit for all ages and genders! There are dark moments and fun moments, sad moments and happy moments. Younger kids can enjoy it for it's story while older can find lots of yuri and yaoi moments if they look... Also there are a lot of girls :D

Kamisama Hajimemashita- fairly clean, kissing scenes, no fanservice, no ecchi, mild language and volience.
Kimi Ni Todoke- beautiful, clean, no language or fanservice.
Shugo Chara-kawaii! Magical Girl series, I love it!
Brothers Conflict- kissing scenes, male harem.
Pretty Cure- clean, fantasy volience, no language.
Pretty Rhythm- my favourite show, no fanservice, no language, it's a great anime.
Kaliedo Star- clean, beautiful and sparkly.
Fairy Tail- moderate fantasy volience, no blood, some fanservice, very mild nudity, and a mild language.

im 12 about to turn 13 and i watch anime a lot especialy anime and i prefer she watches some, DBZ,Naruto,AND MY favourite anime series Say ''I Love You. i got more anime shows. like, Sugar: little snow fairy and kiki's delivery service and totoro,howls moving castle, last my fave 2 uta prince sama maji love 1000% & 2000%, and ok this one is not for girls under 12 Diabolik lovers. <~~~ fave 2.

So, I'd been scrolling through the answers, and I want to add another anime that most don't seem to know about.
Angelic Layer is great for smaller children (considering it's about moving dolls); some compare the value system to be close to Pokemon's.
And also Mermaid Melody is a nice one as well.
As for movies, you might want Ponyo and The Secret World of Arietty.

I watched Sgt Frog (Keroro Gunso, if you want it subbed) when I was eleven! I like it a lot to this day, and its got a lot of slapstick humor, and, in the dub, lots of references (ex: The episode we wanted to call Tiny Toons or Animainiacs but those names were taken!)

It depends on who you are, for example, I find I prefer darker and more horror-themed anime, however, if you like lighter anime, I would recommend Fairy Tail, D. Gray Man, Ouran High School Host Club, and Spice and Wolf.

Obviously Boku no Pico.

But, on a serious note, Nisekoi. 20 episodes full of comedy romance an serious awesomeness. It's rated teen, and it has guns and partial nudity, but it's mainly hidden or very slight (in one episodes you see Tsugumi's bra)

I don't no these anime , but I recommend lucky star .it's pretty ordinary and a bit slow sometimes but she might like it.

I would suggest.. Suggesting her Anime the you yourself have watched, and think are suitable.

While it's not TECHNICALLY an anime, my cousin watched Avatar: The Last Airbender when she was 12 and really enjoyed it :) She also might like Ouran High School Host Club, which is my favorite anime, or possibly a sports anime.

It's about 2 years older than twelve year olds if they are twelve in 2015, it was made in 2001-2002 but its good enough to most people. It's Sister Princess (my fave when I was 12). Note: I said 12 if you're under about age 9 I wouldn't really reccomend it as some content is not for say age 5. (I have a younger brother he was about 6 that time). Why sort-of inappropriate? I wouldn't exactly say that fantasies, pretending and requests of sibling marriage or or dating works too well. Here is the first episode.

The Anime Hayate the Combat Butler is alot better than the picture looks. That's just a picture from the DVD Volume 1. It's ok its not romantic much so you don't have to worries. This Anime has lots of different stuff to to and its really funny.

You should watch Hayate the Combat Butler Anime. It's really good and funny I am not 12 years old but my best friend Fatini Nora who is 12 years old she loves this Anime alot. She told me about this Cable TV channel called Animax where she watches Hayate the Combat Butler Anime on it. My best friend Fatini Nora who is 12 years old got me into this Anime Hayate the Combat Butler. This Anime is really good there is some action in the Anime series. I have not finished Hayate the Combat Butler Anime but from what I seen on YouTube there is 2 season and a movie and video games. So the both of you will enjoy this Anime is really good and Really funny.

there is "my little monster" which i personally LOVE its really interesting and somewhat similar to fruit basket. (i guess...) but its really good. There isnt really any inappropriate scenes so i think its a good choice

I'm a 12 year old but not a normal one, me being more mature means i'm allowed to watch ALOT of stuff but not all 12 year old's are like that....trust me i know -_-

i would recommend something like Cardcaptor Sakura Madoka Magica and if she is mature enough things like fullmetal alchymist are great!

If she likes an anime with cute/hot shirtless guys with a really good storyline that will make you have feels. She should watch Free! there are 2 seasons with 13 episodes each the first season is called:
