The Ame Orphans were one of the many groups of orphans caused by one of Amegakure's wars. Forced to fend for themselves these three would eventually encounter the Sannin. Jiraiya gave them food and agreed to train them in ninjutsu until the point where they could defend themselves. The three children would soon show great talent and proficiency in their training. After three years they would grow to be able to defeat one of Jiraiya's shadow clones. At this point, having grown satisfied with their skill, Jiraiya returned to Konoha.

After Jiraiya's departure from Amegakure, the three quickly gained a reputation to the point that news of their deeds even reached Konoha. Any group that opposed them would "wind up dead". Their group has recruited new members, and with Yahiko as the leader, they planned to bring peace to the village. Unfortunately, Hanzō feared that Yahiko would usurp his position as leader of the village, and took Konan as hostage, ordering Nagato to kill Yahiko. Yahiko, seeing Nagato unable to let either of his friends die, jumped onto the kunai Nagato held and died.

After Yahiko's death, Nagato took over and the group's goal of bringing peace continued. As time grew, more and more members died, eventually leaving only Nagato and Konan. Yahiko's corpse was incorporated into Nagato's Six Paths of Pain, and became his most powerful and cherished one of the six, the Deva Path.

Jiraiya later heard that they had all died, though this was only true of Yahiko. After the invasion of Konoha, Konan became the last surviving member of the Ame Orphans.
