80smusiclover1 The Battle of the Lyrics Game

I would like to thank ktichenor for this great suggestion.

The objective of this game is post your own comparisons of lyrics to songs from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's to lyrics to any song from this current decade. You can choose any song from the past decades I've mentioned. Here's an example:

"Come gather 'round people, wherever you roam. And admit that the waters around you have grown. And accept that soon you'll be drenched to the bone. If your time to you is worth savin', then you better start swimmin'. Or you'll sink like a stone, for the times they are a-changin'." ~"The Times They Are A-Changin" by Bob Dylan (1964)

"Now watch me whip, now watch me nae nae. Now watch me whip, now watch me nae nae. Now watch me whip, now watch me nae nae. Now watch me whip, now watch me nae nae. Watch me, watch me, watch me, watch me, watch me." ~"Watch Me" by Silento (2015)

What is a "Nae Nae" anyway, dude?

Have fun!

Great game! People don't like to write meaningful lyrics anymore.

"I look at the world, and I notice it's turning."
-from "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by The Beatles (1968)

"My anaconda don't want none unless you got buns, hun."
-from "Anaconda" by Nicki Minaj (2014)

Dude, are you even trying?

That's the truth. "Anaconda" is one of my most hated songs, period. over a year ago

Here is my comparison.

"I get this feeling I may know you as a lover and a friend, but this voice keeps whispering in my other ear. Tells me I may never see you again."
-from "Peaceful Easy Feeling" by Eagles (1972)

"This is not a drive by."
-from "Drive By" by Train (2012)
Really? You have to tell me it's not a drive by? Are you sure about that? How do I know you're not lying, mate?

Here is my comparison.

"Love bites. Love bleeds. It's bringing me to my knees."
-from "Love Bites" by Def Leppard (1987)

"Yeah they wishin' and wishin' and wishin' and wishin'. They wishin' on me, yuh"
-from "God's Plan" by Drake (2018)

I weep for the future of music

I have two favourite comparisons; since I've already mentioned one in a couple of places, here's the other:

"I could never really live without you" - the Beatles, "I Need You"

"I'm missing more than just your body" - Justin Bieber, "Sorry"

Sure, like any girl with self-respect is going to accept that apology. This is like my number-one most hated song ("Sorry", obviously.)

That's one of my most hated songs, too. The beat is also very obnoxious. over a year ago
Rubyrings commented…
The beat matches the lyrics very well. I mean, seriously... what was whoever-wrote-that-song thinking?! over a year ago

Nights in white satin, never reaching the end
Letters I've written, never meaning to send
Beauty I've always missed, with these eyes before
Just what the truth is, I can't say anymore." "Nights in White Satin'" By Moody Blues (1967)

Dog goes "woof"
Cat goes "meow"
Bird goes "tweet"
And mouse goes "squeak"

Cow goes "moo"
Frog goes "croak"
And the elephant goes "toot"
Ducks say "quack"
And fish go "blub"
And the seal goes "ow ow ow" "What Does The Fox Say?" By Ylvis (2013)

No, this is not a children's song. This is a hit pop song. Yep, this is where we are, now. I sob for future generations.
80smusiclover1 commented…
Same here. I mean seriously, do we really need to know what the fox says? over a year ago
Rubyrings commented…
Why didn't they just market that as a children's song?? I don't get it. over a year ago
ktichenor commented…
I know right? I first saw it and I really thought it was some kind of joke or parody but it's a real pop song. Who knew? over a year ago

'Oh, I'm beginning to think that man has never found
The words that could make you want me
That have the right amount of letters, just the right sound
That could make you hear, make you see
That you are driving me out of my mind
Oh, I could say I need you, but then you'd realize
That I want you, just like a thousand other guys
Who'd say they loved you with all the rest of their lies
When all they wanted was to touch your face, your hands
And gaze into your eyes'
(Cherish by The Association-1966)

'I said it’s getting hot n’ here
(So hot)
So take off all your clothes
(ohh)
I am getting so hot I wanna take my clothes off'
(Hot n' Here by Nelly-2002)

Cherish was my parents special song and one of my personal favorites.
'Hot n' Here' just creeps me out, EWWW! Besides what kind of sexist garbage is this, anyway? I mean seriously this is music?!

I know, right?! Plus, the "take off all your clothes" part is really gross and disgusting. over a year ago

I know, I swear it's like people just put as little thought as possible when they write these kinds of songs, correction: junk. over a year ago
